baby cha chaThe Problem

When one thinks of Africa, poverty, war, and the AIDS crises often come to mind. Practices of the past and policies of governments and financial institutions continue to hinder the continent from achieving an atmosphere where most individuals could look towards a promising future.

Specifically, in Nigeria, the future is made bleak by the fighting between Muslims and Christians. Massacres, in God’s name, are too often the norm. As in all wars and fighting, it is the children that are most vulnerable. Refugee status, sickness, rape, incarceration for stealing food are all problems that are placed upon the children.

Young people and adults are being made aware of needy situations through advertising and conversations, and are encouraged to take action in bringing about positive change. They learn to help, which in turn enriches their own lives. Children and young people within our foundation use their free time to make music. With performances and presentations they bring joy to institutions, which include homes for the elderly, orphanages, and hospitals. Should someone desire the opportunity to give of their time, and help in one of our corresponding projects abroad, they are given the possibility for preparatory training in our Dr.O center.

The Need

The needed cost to finish the basics of the home is $3000. A working pump for water will be the next major project of the house. All donations towards these major expenses will be appreciated.

We are collecting the following items to be delivered to the home: children’s clothing, over-the-counter medical supplies
(Band-Aids, aspirin, creams, etc.), and children’s books.

A donation of:
$10 will supply food for a child for a week.
$50 will supply medical supplies for two weeks.
A major donation will go towards the $5000 cost of putting in a water drill and pump.

Dr.O offers a Sunday School during the Sunday worship.  Children leave the service after the children's service.  There are opportunities for youth and children to participate in the music, reading, and drama during the worship service.  Below are pictures of our children including from our Bible Adventure Camp 05.

GOD HELP US

MERCYHOME

The hope is that unscrupulous staff of the administration would not in anyway sabotage the new effort geared towards protecting innocent children from persons or groups who under the guise of establishing these homes, stylishly amass wealth for themselves and family by soliciting assistance on behalf of the children. In the past, such efforts had failed because authorities have not put safety net in place.

All orphans sponsored by the scheme are individually selected by Christian Hands staff at our various international offices in the developing world. Only poor orphans (an orphan is a child whose father has passed away) are selected. A child's age, family size and living conditions are also looked at to assess need. Once sponsorship has begun our trained staff continue to maintain regular contact with the child to ensure wellbeing and that the child continues to progress through school.

Upon sponsorship we will send you an information pack with details of the orphan you are sponsoring, such as their age, circumstance, schooling, information about their community and a local address for correspondence. In addition, MH will continue to provide you with annual feedback updates on the child's wellbeing and school reports.
